JFN Patient Advocacy and Support Department

Our Mission

To provide immediate advocacy services to survivors of abuse across the lifespan allowing survivors to initiate the process of psychological healing and begin a healthy grief resolution.

We dedicate ourselves to being advocates to victims in all stages of crisis and adaptation by serving as a collective voice to reduce the threat and effects of sexual assault and domestic violence to our community through education of the dynamics of this phenomenon.

Our Practice Framework

Our advocacy services assist survivors of abuse across the lifespan in resolving their concerns and complaints, providing independent and confidential information, guidance, representation, and support.

We model our advocacy program based on Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Abraham Maslow was a humanistic psychologist who developed a personality theory that has influenced many fields.

His theory is that if the environment is right, humans will grow to actualize the potentials they have inherited. The hierarchic theory is composed of five basic levels. In these five basic levels, a person cannot feel the second until the first has been met, the third cannot be achieved without the second and so on. The five basic needs are:

  1. physiological needs
  2. safety needs
  3. needs for love, affection, and belongingness
  4. needs for esteem
  5. needs for self-actualization
